What is the best type of charger for home?

We recommend installing a Level 2 charger, like any of our smart chargers, for the best experience. These chargers can deliver between 25-40 miles of range in just one hour! Compare that to the Level 1 charger that often comes with your EV from the manufacturer and plugs directly into a 120v outlet. A Level 1 charger delivers at most 4-5 miles of range in an hour and could take you several days to fill your battery.
* Calculations are approximations based on the average consumption of 10 kWh per 30 miles. Actual consumption depends on the vehicle, battery size, and driving conditions.

How much does it cost to charge my EV at home?

The price for charging your vehicle at home depends on how much you pay for each kilowatt-hour (kWh) of electricity used. In other words: if you're looking to fully charge a Nissan Leaf with a 62 kWh battery in the United States, with an average cost of 23 cents per kWh, you will pay around $14.26. The cost you pay per mile will vary depending on your rate and actual efficiency of your EV. The ultimate cost per mile is still comparatively lower than for vehicles with internal combustion engines, not to mention the reduced cost to the environment due to CO2 emissions.

Do I need to upgrade my electrical installation if I want to install an EV charger at home?

As long as you have an available circuit on your home electrical panel of at least 40A, you should be able to add an EV charger without an expensive panel upgrade. Older homes may require upgrades or even additional electrical service, however newer homes are typically built with added electrical demand in mind. When using a Power Meter with your Wallbox charger you can enable Power Boost, which adjusts EV charging speeds based on home power use. This prevents fuse issues and saves on costly electrical upgrades.

Can I charge my EV using solar energy?

Yes you can! Our Solar Charging software lets you charge your EV with 100% solar energy or a mix of solar and grid energy. To enable Solar Charging, you must combine it with one of our power meters. Once installed, you just need to set your preferred mode right from the Wallbox app and let your charger do the rest.
